How to apply for WIC in Pennsylvania

There are two official ways to start: call the statewide hotline 1-800-WIC-WINS, or begin online through the state WIC Family Portal. Either way, the application is finished at a certification appointment with a local WIC clinic.

Step by step

  1. Check the basics. Pennsylvania WIC serves pregnant women, breastfeeding women up to one year after birth, women up to six months after birth who are not breastfeeding, and infants and children under 5, including foster children.
  2. Start. Call 1-800-WIC-WINS to be connected with WIC office staff, or use Get Started Online in the WIC Family Portal.
  3. Book the appointment. Staff schedule your certification visit at a clinic near you.
  4. Gather your papers. Identity, address and income proof for each person applying. See what to bring.
  5. Go to the visit. Staff check income, take height and weight, and look at nutrition risk. If you qualify, benefits are loaded to an eWIC card.

Clinics without published hours

The state clinic search lists each clinic with an address and phone number but no opening hours. That is why every clinic page on this site says "hours not published". Call the clinic or the hotline before you travel.

Virtual clinics

Some local agencies list a "virtual clinic" in the state search, for example in Allegheny County. These are appointment lines for remote visits, not walk-in offices. Ask when you book whether your appointment can be done by phone or video.
